An optometrist is a doctor who is specifically trained and state licensed to diagnose and treat eye diseases and injuries, and to prescribe and fit contact lenses and eyeglasses. The typical optometrist has attended 4 years of undergraduate college education, followed by 4 years of optometry college.

M. D. (Ophthalmologist)

An ophthalmologist is an eye surgeon.

Optician

An optician is trained, and in many states, licensed, to fill prescriptions for eyeglasses.
