Optical Office Position Available
Thank you for thinking about joining our practice. Eye care is different than other medical fields. Most of the time, we are dealing with patients who enjoy their visit, and look forward to ordering new eyewear or contact lenses. We don't save a lot of lives, but we improve the quality of life of our patients.
This is a permanent part-time position, three days per week. We are looking for someone who actually wants a part time position rather than full time. We prefer someone who has had some experience along life’s road, rather than someone fresh out of high school. Previous experience in a medical office sitting would be helpful, but it is not a requirement.
Your schedule will be Tueday and Thursday in New London, and Wednesday in Vermilion. Your hours will be regular daytime business hours. Our Vermilion office is on Route 6, and our New London office is 24 miles south of our Vermilion office on Route 60.
We are looking for someone with excellent ability to communicate precisely, and, good "people skills". Your qualifications will determine the starting rate that we offer. Please realize that we pay for performance, not for longevity on the job. If you perform extremely well for us, your pay can increase rather quickly.
You must be well-groomed, without visible tattoos or piercings on the job. You must be excellent at communicating with people. You must be extremely reliable about showing up as scheduled. You need to be able to "smile even when your feet hurt".
What you will learn to do:
Answer the phone, schedule appointments
Itemize charges for patients and insurance
Pre-test patients for eye exams, using computerized instruments
Help patients select eyewear that meets their needs
Teach patients to apply, remove, and care for their contact lenses
Basic adjustment and repair of eyewear
... and a little bit of everything in our small but quite busy offices.
